Our Story

How it all started...

Vertical Community Church began its mission by launching a Spanish service on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at a small event center with a small group of about 20 people in Edinburg, TX. We would gather every first Sunday of the month and in less than a year, our journey took us to a small storefront building, which we quickly outgrew. After relocating once again, we eventually found our current home.

The term "vertical" describes a line that runs directly up and down. In our Christian journey, prioritizing a strong vertical connection with God is crucial. This relationship  involves focusing on Jesus Christ and maintaining a God-centered perspective, acknowledging God's presence. Hebrews 12:1-2 emphasizes the importance of fixing our focus on Jesus, highlighting the value of our vertical relationship with Him. This principle inspired the name Vertical Community Church.

Pastors Joe and Patty envisioned establishing a church with a clear goal: Restore Families and Build Communities marking the start of a promising journey filled with expectation and hope.

Vertical Community Church prioritizes engaging with people on a personal level,  focusing on cultivating relationships through discipleship, which includes learning about Jesus’ teachings. The powerful Gospel message, vibrant weekly services, and a loving community have consistently fueled VCC’s growth. Today, Vertical Community Church (VCC) draws a diverse group of people from Edinburg and neighboring areas. Join us to experience the transformative power of our God firsthand.

Expanding the vision...

Vertical Community Church is driven by a vision centered on Restoring Families and Building Communities. Our mission is to create an environment where individuals can connect with Jesus, discover their purpose, and be empowered through discipleship rooted in God’s Word.

Our Vision statement of Restoring Families and Building Communities originated from one of our Bible Studies on the Book of Nehemiah. Nehemiah was deeply troubled by the state of his homeland, which had remained in ruins for nearly a century without any signs of restoration. He made a courageous choice to stop being part of the problem and instead became a solution with God's guidance. He received a God Vision and he put faith to action. He prayed, fasted and wrote it down - made a blueprint for the journey.

Nehemiah 2:17 - Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision” (disgrace).

Where we are headed...

In 2012, God called Pastors Joe and Patty to church plant Vertical Community Church, drawing on their combined thirty years of ministry experience.

At VCC, our mission is to create an everlasting impact in Edinburg and its neighboring areas through God’s Word and His power. With a diverse population of over 105,000 residents in Edinburg, we are driven to create a versatile training and community center that supports local families. We are in the process of expanding our vision and are prepared to acquire property for a worship training center that will include Christian education, an outreach center, a coffee house, housing for ministers, and a prayer courtyard.
While the center will have a physical location, our overarching vision for Vertical Community Church is to restore families and strengthen communities. We are commanded to make disciples and help them discover their God-given purpose so they can make an eternal difference in their communities.

Jeremiah 29:7
Seek the welfare of the city I have deported you to. Pray to the Lord on its behalf, for when it has prosperity, you will prosper.
